Twelve PACEs per grade level are used for instruction in grammar, literature, vocabulary, and composition. Each PACE features a character quality as its theme, with a "Wisdom" study in the center of each booklet and a related Scripture verse to be memorized.

Grammar, including diagramming, receives the most attention in English I, with little time spent on composition. The balance shifts to more composition and less grammar through each level. Students learn to write essays, short stories, and term papers. Literature is incorporated throughout each level with students assigned books to read. Questions regarding the books are found in the PACEs.

English I uses Swiss Family Robinson and Twice Freed. English II requires students to read The Hiding Place and God's Tribesman. English III (American Literature) assigns excerpts from The Oregon Trail and the entire book of In His Steps. English IV (English Literature) incorporates Macbeth, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and Silas Marner.
