A Nation Adrift DVD
This ninety-minute DVD presentation begins like some others that discuss America's Christian history. However, the scope is broader while the purpose is more specific than in other presentations. On one hand, I might describe it as a super-condensed overview of United States history very professionally presented with an assortment of illustrations, film footage, quotations, and reenactments. Teens will enjoy watching this video, especially as it moves into more modern history with actual film footage. In terms of coverage, it's so condensed that we jump from Amelia Earhart to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. However, the point is to trace the path from our country's origins to its present state, highlighting major events, rather than to cover all the details.
A Christian, conservative viewpoint is clearly evident, but it takes on a stronger political tone as Margaret Sanger and her work with eugenics and the founding of Planned Parenthood is followed by the introduction of Roger Baldwin, founder of the ACLU. As the presentation gallops through the 60s and 70s, the message becomes even more clear—that America has lost its spiritual foundation and has rejected God and his law. The video offers a counterpoint with references to some of the major revivals in America and the drastic changes that took place in society (albeit relatively short-lived) as the result. Be aware that towards the end, footage illustrating an abortion and footage of some homosexual activity (hugging, kissing, lewd dancing) are included. The message at the end is a wake-up call for Christians to renew their faith and be politically involved.
