World Literature
Among the plethora of books published by Seton Press for high school is this outstanding World Literature text, evidently a reprint from an earlier series. Subtitled, "Readings for Catholic High School Students," it will please parents looking for literature that includes the Catholic perspective. This anthology features classics like "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," "The Redheaded League," and poetry by Emily Dickenson. But it also includes many pieces of a more Catholic nature such as "The Maid of Orleans, Joan of Arc," "The Black Robe," "The Song of Bernadette," and a selection from "The Imitation of Christ." "Helps for Study" at the end of each piece are actually questions that can be used for oral or written work. Some pieces also have class discussion questions, suggestions for further reading, and extended oral or written composition suggestions. The book is available with enrollment in Seton's World Literature course (traditional distance enrollment, but soon available as an online course) or on its own. Although Seton suggests using it in tenth grade, it could be used any year of high school.
